Patsy Clark, 1880s Part 3 of Many

Patsy Clark Part 3 1880s

1881 Marriage

1881 -- While he was in Butte Montana, he met Mary Stack and married her on -- wait for it -- St. Patrick's Day, 1881! (Alexander & Weiser-Alexander, 2010).  Why are we not surprised?

As always, I wonder where they met, how they met?  Was she a worker in the General Store?  Was he smitten with her when he paid his bill?

[I later discovered evidence that Mary's mother, Mary Mahoney Stack, operated a rooming house and restaurant.  It is quite possible Mary Stack the daughter was working with her mother, and met this confident young man there.]

They eventually have six children, according to Alexander & Weiser-Alexander, but in looking at his genealogy, it seems Mary had at least 8 children.  Patsy notes that his children are three little girls.  We will get to those proofs at a later time, when it fits in the chronology (I can hear you laughing at me!)

1882-1883

First child, Mary, was born the year after they were married, but she died in 1883.  I haven't been able to find what she died of (Pettit, 2016).

1887

When he saw an opportunity, he went to Spokane Washington to open up the Poor Man Mine in the Coeur d'Alene District (Alexander & Weiser-Alexander, 2010).  That is pronounced "COOR dah LEEN.   Patsy Clark was described as a double-A-type personality, who inevitably became captain of everything (Pettit, 2016).

Also 1887 -- the Battle of Big Hole.  We will cover this in a separate post, so hang in there.  There is just too much information.  I was going to add just a skiff of information, a blurb like most authors have.  But I don't operate that way, don't you know.  I did some light research, which ended up with a massive amount of information, so I decided to cut the Big Hole into another independant post.  If you don't want to miss anything, subscribe so you know exactly when I post it.

1889

The original Clark home burned to ghe ground in the Great Fire of Spokane.  See the very first post here.

Much of the business district of Spokane had also burned to cinders.  But Clark had made his fortune by this time, and he hired a famous architect Kirtland Cutter to design for himself an even better mansion (Alexander & Weiser-Alexander, 2010), (Video Producers Inc., 2006).
